Elizabeth Friel

Friel, Elizabeth Holt, passed from this life to her eternal home in heaven, April 29, 2012. She was born October 5, 1919 in Fackler, Alabama, the child of parents, Monroe and Suzanna Vincent Holt. Elizabeth married Francis W. Friel in Marion County, TN in 1938 and in 1940 moved to Chattanooga, TN where they lived and raised their family. Her grandchildren lovingly called her Gann and the name became a favorite nickname for her by family and long¬time friends. A member of Woodland Park Baptist Church, Elizabeth served as a Sunday school teacher for 22 years. Later she joined Bayside Baptist Church in Harrison, TN. In 2007; Elizabeth moved to Mt. Juliet to live with her daughter and later was one of the first residents to move into Rutland Place, a senior retirement residence in Mt. Juliet. Elizabeth adored living at Rutland Place and loved all her new friends who lived there. She encouraged everyone, including the staff - from administrators to secretaries to kitchen staff to housekeeping and maintenance personnel. She added them all to her ever-growing daily prayer list. At Rutland Place, Elizabeth was a member of a Bible study class sponsored by First Baptist Church, Mt. Juliet. Elizabeth was

known for her love for God and her cheerful attitude, love for everyone and her willingness to pray for everyone she met. Her family would say she was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Her husband, Francis W. Friel preceded her in death as well as her parents and 10 siblings. She is survived by daughters, Gloria (Ron) Gant of Harrison, TN, Carolyn (Don) Griffith, Mt. Juliet, TN and Linda (Joe) White of Prosperity, SC;

Grandchildren, Jeff (Rene) Hoge of Franklin, TN, Rick (Kim) Hoge of Harrison, TN, Jodi Griffith of Mt. Juliet, TN, Chris (Emily) White of Greenville, SC and Robin (Eric) Soster of Fayetteville, AR. Elizabeth bragged on her twelve great-grandchildren, Emily, Kaitlyn, Thomas, Brittney, Cameron, Conner, Gibson, Whitaker, Harriet, Sydney, Abel and Joey.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Chattanooga Funeral Home (North) 5401 Hwy 153, Hixson, TN with Pastor Emeritus at Bayside Baptist Church, Robert C. Stitts officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Hoge, Rick Hoge, Chris White, Eric Soster, Cameron Hoge, Abel Soster, Robin Soster and Jodi Griffith. The great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bond Memorial Chapel and 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Chattanooga Funeral Home (North).
