

Erma was born on August 22, 1918 in Hillsboro, Illinois. She was a graduate of Illinois State Normal University in Normal, Illinois where she received her degree in teaching. Erma and her late husband owned and operated Hoover Jewelers in Gibson City, Illinois. She was a member of Gibson City United Methodist Church where she served as an accountant. She has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max C. Hoover.
Erma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Steve Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Nancy Hoover; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Rebecca and Steve Porter and Lora and Jesse Pierce; three step grandchildren and step grandchildren-in-law, Sandra and Dale Evans, Steve and Angela Lewis, Jr. and Rick and Sherri Lewis; great grandchildren, Ryan Porter, Ella Pierce, Elisabeth Pierce and Emily Pierce; six step great grandchildren, Jordan and Trevor Lewis, Sophia, Emma, Dillon and Ethan Evans; sister-in-law, Virginia Hoover; and a nephew, David Hoover.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Highway 153 in Hixson, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Erma’s name to Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, TN 37415 or Hixson United Methodist Church, 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343.
