Gene was born on August 1, 1922 in Illmo, Missouri and was employed with Missouri/Pacific / Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years. He retired in 1983 as Sales Manager. Gene was a Mason for 65 years. He was a Sergeant in the United States Air Corp’s from 1942-1946 as an Air Traffic Controller. Gene loved golf and played for over 50 years. He was a past member of both Valley Brook and Creek’s Bend Golf Clubs. He enjoyed living on the lake and boating.
He was preceded in death by Dorothy, wife of 47 years and mother of his two deceased children; wife, Reeda for 20 years; son, Brian Simpson and daughter, Kathy Parker; brother, Charles Simpson; sister, Patricia Laturno.
Gene is survived by his son-in-law, Dr. Gene Parker, McComb, MS; daughter-in-law, Libby Simpson, Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Katie (Greg) Tanner, Knoxville, TN, Maggie (Dr. Brad) Ingram, Madison, MS, Dan Parker, Hattiesburg, MS, and Emily (Alex) Ellis, Port Allen, LA; 6 great grandchildren; special friends, Dr. Larry Gilliam, Tony and Tanza Hood and J. R. and Helen Chapman.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, July 8, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Graveside services for Gene will follow at 11 am on Saturday, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
