Freda E. Smith

Freda was a longtime member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church and retired from Erlanger Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Taylor Smith; her sons, James Gilbert Smith and Jimmy Ray Smith; brothers, William Paul Chance, James Macklin Chance, Harold Foster Chance and Clifford Henrey Chance.

She leaves behind her loving daughter, Teresa S. (Phil) Phillips of Ooltewah, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Vicki Smith; her grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Donnell (Matt) McCorkle, Michael Grooms, Stephanie (David) Cayson, and Ricky (Priscilla) Grooms; great-grandchildren, Madelynn Hicks, Savannah Hicks, Brooklyn McCorkle, Ali Grace McCorkle, Alex (Meg) Cayson, Maggie (Forrest) Jackson, Patton Grooms, AnnaMae Grooms, and Mason Grooms; sisters, Mary Evelyn Brannon, Shirley Faye (Terry) Parsons and Dora Mae Farmer; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Freda’s life will follow at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the North Chapel with Reverend Randy Bell, Reverend Roger DeHart and Dr. Phil Phillips officiating.

Burial will be held in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lupton Drive Baptist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga.
