Gary George Flerchinger, 63, of Hixson, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. As a mechanical engineer designing garbage trucks, he worked for the same company for 33 years. Gary was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus. He also served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 172 and loved his annual Canada fishing trips. As a Master Gardener, Gary helped construct the raised beds at the Chattanooga Food Bank. Being born in Wisconsin, he was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Loretta Flerchinger, and his stepfather, Elmer Wellenstein. Gary is survived by his wife of 39 years, Arlene; daughter Megan; two sons, Andrew and Eric; two sisters, Jean (John) Wildhagen and JoAnn (Clark) Weeden; his stepmother Clara Wellenstein; and eight nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12 at St. Jude Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Building Fund, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
