

Harold Ray Lanter went home to be with his Lord Jesus and reunited with his wife of 67 years on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Harold was one of five children which include Alma Blasingame(Jim), Cora Barron(Johnny), Katherine Italiano-Merther(Fred), and Nancy Hansard(Jim)
Harold was born September 11, 1934, to Boyd and Virgie Lanter of Speedwell, Virginia. He was married to Betty Jo Lanter, and they have four sons Michael, Rick, Greg, and Jeffery. They were also blessed with eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Betty preceded him in death on October 24, 2021.
Harold was a very active church member in any city they lived in: Washington D.C., Atlanta, Brunswick, Augusta, and Chattanooga, Tn.
He played baseball and basketball in High School and excelled in academics, graduating salutatorian of his class.
After serving in the United States Air Force for four years, he worked for the FBI and later started his career in 1960 with Sears Roebuck and Company. After achieving his goal of Store Manager, he retired in 1993 with 33 years of service. After retiring, he started a Courier service that lasted ten more years.
Harold enjoyed playing golf with Betty Jo, his four sons, and friends at St. Simon Island. He liked to travel, plant trees and flowers, and work on his farm, but most of all, he loved his Lord, his family, and his country.
The Family will receive friends on Monday, February 7th from 12:00-2:30 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:30 pm. A private committal service will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in his honor to the Wounded Warriors Project or St Jude Children's Hospital.
