He was co-owner of Downey’s Florist and Gift Gallery along with his wife Doris Downey and son Doug Downey. Downey’s Florist was awarded in the top 500 FTD florist and top 200 AFS florist. Retired from Provident Life and Accident . Past agent with Horace Mann Insurance. Recipient of many sales awards. Past President of Kiwanis Club and North River branch of Chamber of Commerce. He was a representative for the American Floral Service and Florist Transworld Delivery.
Served in the Navy during WWII and Korea on his beloved USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He attended UTC and Temple University in Pennsylvania.
He is proceeded in death by parents Otis & Zora Downey of Sale Creek, his wife of 65 years Doris Downey, all siblings. Survivors are sons Greg (Gina) and Doug (Debra) Downey. Grandchildren Sarah, Lindsey, Garret, Cody, Kyle and Stephen. Several Great Grandchildren.
Family will be holding a graveside military service at the National Cemetery Monday August 5th, 11:00am for all who wish to attend.
