

He was a native and lifelong resident of Chattanooga, born on Valentine’s Day 1924, to the late Margaret and Cecil Green. Harry graduated from Central High School Class of 1943 and attended the University of Chattanooga. Harry was a Bugler First Class in the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II. Harry was a member of Avondale Baptist Church where he had served as Music Director for 27 years, Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School teacher. He also led Senior Adult choirs at Avondale and Ridgeview Baptist Church. Harry retired after 36 years, as Purchasing Agent for Chattanooga Coke and Chemical Company. He directed the “Scenic City Concert Band” for 55 years. Harry was a past member of the “American Legion Post 95, Big Band.” He also was a member of the American Legion Post 95 and a member of the Half Century Club. Some of Harry’s greatest joys in life were, serving the Lord, his family, his music, hunting, fishing and watching his three grandchildren play sports.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Green and a grandson, Stephen Glenn Green.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mable Griffin Green; son, Steve Green and daughter-in-law, Glenda Hamill Green; three grandchildren, Josh, Colton and Samantha Green; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Wilson and Bobbie Griffin; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday and 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Friday at the North Chapel.
Services for Harry will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 30, at the North Chapel with Rev. Richard Sorey officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. The American Legion Post 95 Color Guard will perform the honors and Jack Kinser, longtime friend, will play taps. Josh Green, Colton Green, Robert Best, Tom Bartleson, Tom Cox and Joe Murray will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the “Scenic City Concert Band.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harry’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 7629 Hamilton Park Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
