James "Jim" Dykes, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at The Bridge on Monteagle Mountain. A native of McMinnville, TN, he had lived in the Chattanooga area for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe under General George Patton. Retiring from Combustion Engineering after many years of service, gave him time to enjoy his skills at carpentry and being an outdoorsman. He was the son of the late James and Ada Harmon Dykes and was also preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Dykes and ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include his daughter, Lynda Walker, The Villages, FL and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wayland Stewart officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery. Being an animal lover who took in many strays over the years, the family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center, 4500 Access Road, Chattanooga, TN 3741-3819. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday morning at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153.
