Janet Milner Hubbuch, of Chattanooga, died peacefully on Sunday morning, December 30, 2018. She was born on July 19, 1945, the third child of LeRoy and Elisabeth Milner, of Sheffield, Alabama. Her early years were spent in Sheffield, Ala., Rogersville., Tennessee, and later, in Chattanooga where she has resided for 62 years. She attended Brainerd High School and was in the first graduating class. She furthered her education at the University of Chattanooga where she was president of Chi Omega Fraternity. Upon graduation, Jan enjoyed a long teaching career in public and parochial schools, which culminated at Notre Dame High School where she loved the teaching environment, students, and mission of the school.
While she cherished her students and teaching career, her heart was full when she was with Tommy and their three children, Emily, Nick, and Liz--whether going to the beach, attending Mass together, gathering with family, attending dance recitals or baseball games--being with her family was what gave Jan the most pleasure. In recent years, Jan had the privilege of time frequently spent with her "perfect" grandchildren, Ruby, Otto, and Piper. The impact on their lives will be immeasurable.
Jan was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Francis Hubbuch, who was her anchor and the love of her life. She is survived by her children, Emily Hubbuch, Nicholas Hubbuch, Elisabeth (Ben) Presnell , her beloved grandchildren, Ruby and Otto Hubbuch, and Piper Presnell, and her five brothers and sisters, Kay (Lou) Gura, Roy (Faye) Milner, Pam (Jim) Gallagher, Mary (Tim) Quinlan, John (Jeanne) Milner. Also mourning her death are many members of Tommy's family including Margaret Hubbuch, Carl (Eileen), George (Phyllis), and Joe (Carol) Hubbuch, Mary Helen (Gary) Ostendarp, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed by everyone who was fortunate to know her, especially her children and grandchildren. We were all blessed to know and love this special lady from whom we have learned so much.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to either Notre Dame High School, Chattanooga, TN, or the Delta Alpha Chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity, UTC.
