On a summer day in the mountains of Pikeville, Tennessee, a feisty little girl was born to Samuel Carl Dyer and Flossie Lee Dyer on June 4, 1936. Her parents named her Norma Jean Dyer, but during her life on this earth, she earned many more names. She was welcomed into the world by her sister, Mary Ruth, and later when her brother, Randall Bryan, was born, the family of five was complete. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death, and until her death on March 11, 2026, Jean was the surviving member. Jean became Norma Jean Hart when she married Robert C. Hart, Sr., who also preceded her in death.
Throughout her life, she earned many affectionate names – Jean, Mom, Normal/Abnormal (no, that isn’t a misprint), Ganny (not a misprint either), and Nonna.
Mom to Debbie Morgan, Valerie Jordan, and Robert (Gail) Hart. Her son also lovingly called her Normal, and when she was at her wittiest, Abnormal.
Nonna to Tucker.
Ganny to grandsons Chad, Ryan (Samantha), Adam, and another Adam, and to one married granddaughter.
Ganny to great-grandchildren Connor, Elizabeth, Reid, and the five children of the married granddaughter.
Jean to nephews Roger, Jerry, Darrell, Doug, Scotty, and Russell; nieces Angie and Cheri; great nephews and nieces; and her many friends. Her nephews Randy and Bruce preceded her in death.
Jean was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She was the last surviving founding member of the North Hixson Church of Christ, and until her declining health dictated her worship from home, she attended Rhea Church of Christ. Her professional career included many years in the cafeteria at Hixson High School, TVA, and IntegraTax.
All her life Jean was defined by her faith, her wit, and constant support of her family. She was always a supportive Mom, Ganny, and Nonna. During her life, she attended many events for church, family, friends, and school, plus countless sporting events.
Mom, Normal, Abnormal, Ganny, Nonna, Jean - you will be missed.
