John Paul Dodd, 72, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on April 15, 2026. Born on November 5, 1953, he was a native of Hammond, IN. He moved to Chattanooga at age 10 and remained a resident of the area for the rest of his life.
John is remembered with deep respect and quiet affection—a man whose easy-going spirit carried both the free-spirited warmth of a hippie and the steady, grounded presence of a country cowboy. In the way he moved through life, there was a calm, unhurried steadiness that made others feel at ease in his company.
For more than 25 years, John worked as a Cryogenics Operator for BOC, a role that reflected his reliability and dedication. He later continued his working years as a plumbing sales associate for Home Depot for 16 years, bringing the same consistent work ethic and approachable manner to everyone he helped.
He found joy in simple, enduring pleasures. He loved listening to country music, square dancing, and fishing—pastimes that suited his laid-back nature and his appreciation for life’s quieter moments.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pauline Dodd, and by his loving wife of 42 years, Carol Anne Dodd. Survivors include his daughter, Heidi (Tony) Pocase; his beautiful granddaughter, Serena Pocase; his beloved cat, Loki; several cousins; and his two best friends, Carter Stine and Steve Taylor.
The family would like to thank caretakers, Kim, Mrs.B, Chris, Paige and Larissa for all their love and care.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2026 in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 10 am on Monday, April 20, 2026 in the chapel. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
