John is survived by siblings Laurie Donis, Rodger Edmonds, Ray Stiffler, and Tricia Schmidt; children Joseph Edmonds and Megan Edmonds; his ex-wife Carol Edmonds; and granddaughter Dharma Edmonds-Wert.
John loved military history, particularly the Civil War, and science fiction. He was a member of a Civil War reenactment group and was a volunteer reenactor on the 1993 movie Gettysburg.
No memorial service is planned, but a private event in which John's ashes will be spread at a Civil War battlefield, probably Gettysburg, is being planned.
