He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Mildred and W.E. McCurdy; his brother, Charles E. Nelson; sister, Linda Nelson Lewis; grandmother, Lura Huskey Johnson; and several aunts and uncles.

John was of the Baptist faith and was always ready to let anyone know he had been saved and knew where he was going when his life on earth was ended. John had lost both legs and feet to diabetes but we sincerely believe that today he is walking, with no assistance, on streets of gold.
There will be a graveside service held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5351 Hwy 153, Hixson, TN at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 21st to honor our brother and friend. His nephew, Jeremy Cardwell will be officiating.
If you wish, you may make a memorial contribution to the Diabetes Association or to the Gideon’s Bibles in John’s honor.
The wonderful folks at the Collegedale Life Care Center took very good care of John for the last couple years of his life, and his family is very thankful to them. May God bless them greatly for their kindness and care they showed our brother! A special thanks to Alan for being such a fine roommate.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
