John Martin

John Martin, age 72, of Hixson, TN suddenly departed from this life on August 19, 2013. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 53 years Dianne Killough Martin, sons Doug (Kathy) Martin, and Greg (Sheila) Martin, both of Hixson and daughter Cindy (Jeff) Cronan of Chattanooga. He is also survived by his brothers Ronnie Martin of New Albany, IN, Gary Martin and sister Elaine Ang both of Clarksville, IN.

John was born, Feb 25, 1941, in New Albany, IN to Butler and Margaret Martin who predeceased him. He played basketball for the New Albany Bulldogs in High School where he graduated in 1959. His team played in the semi finals of the Indiana State High School Championship his senior year. John’s athletic ability and academic excellence earned him a college scholarship to Tennessee Wesleyan where he met his wife and began his family.

John began his career after graduating from the University of Chattanooga with a degree in Chemistry. He worked for Standard Brands, Riechold, BASF, GAF throughout his career. He retired from ParaChem Chemical Company as President in 2007. John was the holder of four patents for his inventions in the latex industry.

John’s love for Kentucky basketball and knowledge of the Kentucky Derby was unequalled. His hobbies included golf, college sports, and horse racing. He will be missed by his family and a host of friends who were privileged to know him.

John’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. They are Benjamin Martin, Austin Martin, Hayden Cronan, Jay Martin, Bryce Cronan, Patrick Martin, Peyton Martin, Jack Martin, and Maggie Martin.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 22 from 5 to 8, and Friday, from 10 to 11 at the North Chapel.

Funeral Services will be Friday, August 23 at 11:00 with Greg Martin officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be given to Chattanooga Community Kitchen at Post Office Box 11203, Chattanooga, TN 37401, in memory of John.

Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153 in Hixson, is handling the service for the Martin family.
