Tom Webster was born on July 24, 1950, to Mary and “Dutch” Webster in Knoxville, Tennessee. After graduating from Holston High School in 1968, he went on to attend the University of Tennessee, where he earned a degree in Industrial Management and played basketball for the Volunteers. (Go Big Orange!)
In 1971, Tom married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Judy Crawford. Together, they shared over 53 years of marriage and were blessed with two children, Stephanie and Jeff. Tom was a devoted husband and father, and he found immeasurable joy in these roles. However, perhaps the title he cherished most was that of "Grandfather." He delighted in his four grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. He also loved spending time in the mountains, enjoying the company of his beloved pets, attending UT football games, and listening to music. And, of course, indulging in a donut (or six) would certainly have made his list of favorite activities.
Tom's professional career spanned several industries, beginning with roles in quality control at Levi Strauss, Nike, and Signal Apparel. He later transitioned to the real estate sector before ultimately serving as a veteran's representative for the State of Tennessee.
After graduation, Tom began his distinguished military career in the United States Army. He proudly served his country for 38 years in the Army Reserves, participating in three overseas campaigns: Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Tom spent most of his career with the 489th Civil Affairs Battalion, where he forged lifelong friendships with his fellow soldiers.
Tom professed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior as a young adult, and his Christian values guided him throughout his life. He sought to emulate Christ in all that he did and was known for his humility, honesty, and integrity. His infectious sense of humor and hearty laughter were a source of joy to everyone around him. He was deeply loved by his family and all who knew him. While his family mourns his passing, they take comfort in knowing that Tom’s life is secure in heaven with Christ.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and “Dutch” Webster, and his in-laws, Curtis and Sylvia Crawford. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; daughter, Stephanie Fuhrman (Brent); son, Jeff (Xiaoxi); brother, Rick (Judy); and four cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Ford, and Hayes Fuhrman, and McKenzie Webster and beloved nieces, nephew, and cousins.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the Tennessee State Veteran’s Home-Cleveland; Right at Home; Ascension Living; Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department; and our many prayer warriors that enabled us to care for Tom well over the past several years.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
