Larry was born in Madison, TN and moved to Chattanooga as a child where he graduated from Red Bank High School, Class of 1962. He worked in the banking industry for most of his professional career at American National/Suntrust and Union Planters. Later he worked for FIMCO Services until his retirement in 2017. During his free time, Larry enjoyed volunteering in the community. He was heavily involved in the Dupont/Rivermont Youth Association in numerous capacities, such as coaching, serving as President and as a District Director. He also spent a lot of his time as an active booster club member for Red Bank High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LaMoin and Edith Groves; sister-in-law, Linda Goves and nephew Chris Groves.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona DeBerry Groves; children: Jason Groves of Chattanooga and Jennifer Parr of Soddy-Daisy; siblings, twin brother, Barry (Brenda) of Athens, GA; LaMoin “Butch” (Linda) of Mt. Juliet, TN; Keith (Amy) of Jackson, TN and sister Cheri (Bill) Beard of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: Kiersten (Alexander) Lugo of Ringgold, GA and Madelyn, Chase and Hannah Parr, of Soddy-Daisy; great-grandson: Hudson Parr and soon-to-be great-granddaughter: Sylvie Lugo; as well as several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Larry was a very devoted and supportive father and grandfather. He rarely missed any activity his children and grand-children participated in, whether it be sports, band concerts or cheer competitions. Larry also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and close friends. Later in life, Larry discovered his true calling. He would become a chauffeur for his grandkids and work for his son, running materials for Groves Electric. He was so proud of their accomplishments and enjoyed every minute of it. He was adored and will be dearly missed.
