Frank was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area and served our country during World War II in the U. S. Navy on the USS Blue Ridge. He retired from DuPont with over 37 years of service. Frank was a longtime member of Hixson First Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons, Usher, taught the 5 years old Sunday School Class and a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He loved baseball and coached for over 20 years with the Dixie Youth organization at DuPont Rivermont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Nellie Boyd Burns; brother, Howard Burns; sisters, Sadie Lane and Gladys Ryan and a granddaughter, Robyn Burns.
Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ila Grimsley Burns; two children, Randy Burns (Lawrence Franklin, III) and wife Donna and Phyllis Byrd; granddaughter, Rachel Howard and husband Michael; great grandchildren, Trevor Burns and Ezra Howard; and several nieces.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 at the North Chapel.
Services for Frank will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the North Chapel with Rev. Terry Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s name to the building fund at Hixson First Baptist Church, 5800 Grubb Road, Hixson, Tennessee 37343.
