Lewis "Dip" W. O'Rear

Mr. Lewis W. “Dip”, O’Rear Jr. 90, of Hixson, was welcomed into the loving open arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 23, 2018. Dip was a native of Chattanooga, born on August 2, 1928. He served in the US Navy during WWII and then began a career at Dupont where he retired as a mechanic. He was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church since 1954 where he served as a deacon, 5 yr. old Sunday School teacher, and loyal choir member. He served for many years on the Hamilton County Volunteer Rescue Squad. Dip was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy “Dot” Lee Johnson O’Rear and 3 sisters. Survivors include his brothers, Steven Richard O’Rear and David Mitchell O’Rear; daughter, Cynthia Nunn (Monty); daughter Virginia “Ginger” Stallings (John); son, Lewis Willard “Skip” O’Rear III; grandchildren, William Matthew Woodside (Vanessa), Jeremy Brian Nunn (Aleris), Heather Christine Eslinger, Jonathan David Nunn, Jessica Leann Nunn, Tiffany Denise Howard (John), and Robert Garry Woodside; and 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 27th from 4-8 pm and Wednesday, November 28th from 10 am to 1 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 28th in the funeral home chapel with Jeremy Nunn officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
