Mae was a descendant of the original pioneer settlers of the Gadd, Rawlston and Hixson families. She was a lifelong resident of the Hixson area. Mae worked for Carter Brothers and Pruett’s Food Town. Mae loved life and enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger. She was the oldest member of Burks United Methodist Church where she was very active in the senior groups. She loved to travel with them on their trips and was a member of the Senior Neighbors. Mae was an avid quilter who quilted the Bi-Centennial Quilt which is located in the Hamilton County Court House.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Rawlston; and a son, Everett Joe Rawlston.
Mae is survived by her five grandchildren, Randy J. (Jan) Rawlston, Michael W. (Beth) Rawlston, Teresa (Jim) Denham, Jane Rawlston and Jean (John) Doub; 14 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; two nieces, Margie (Paul) McGuffey and Erma Ruth Baker.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the North Chapel.
Graveside services for Mae will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with her great grandsons serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mae’s name to Burks United Methodist Church, 6429 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343.
