

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. James Lafayette Pryor and Mary Annetta Angeline McClellan Pryor; her husband’s parents, Virginia Ophelia Arnett Gardner, and Frank Leslie Gardner; her husband, Willard Dorsey Gardner; her son, Steven Dorsey Gardner; sisters and brothers, Marie and Jim Pryor, Mary and Dick Cairney, Martha and Ed Denning, John Pryor, Fran and Bill Pryor, Imogene and Bob Jones, Thelma and Leslie Gardner, Virginia and Frank Gardner, Carolyn and R. W. Wilson; nephews, Mike Gardner, Billy Howland, and Damon Laymon.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Angeline Virginia Gardner; son and his wife, Tay and Greg Berryhill Gardner; daughter-in-law, Colleen Gardner; grandson and his wife, Janice and Zachary Gardner; granddaughter and her husband, Hannah and Woody Woodruff; three great-grandsons, Oliver, Arthur, and William; sister, Clara Pryor Howland; brothers and their wives, Dr. Joe and Carol Anne Pryor, and Fred and Marilyn Pryor; and a multitude of nieces and nephews who she treasured. Mona Bombassi is the second daughter Mom and the rest of the family always wanted. Mona came into Margaret’s life after Dorsey died and she needed a ride to church. They became close friends.
Margaret was born at home where she lived until she married Dorsey the November after they graduated high school. The met at Central High School where, after their first date, they never went out with anyone else.
Margaret grew up at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Dorsey and her were founding members of St. Jude’s Catholic Church where she was a very active volunteer. Mom also spent many hours helping Our Ladies Of Charity. Margaret and Dorsey worked at the Community Kitchen on 11th Street for many years together.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday January 12, 2024, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, in Hixson.
Margaret’s Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday January 13, beginning at 11:00 AM with visitation then the Mass at 12:00 noon, all at St. Judes’s Catholic Church, at 930 Ashland Terrace, Hixson, TN.
