Born in Bridgeport, Alabama, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Horton, and son, Stephen Horton, as well as her parents, Walter and Carrie McCallie Hawk and nine brothers and sisters.
She retired from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she served as the Administrative Aide to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Survivors include her daughters and families, Beth and Hugh Dickey and Jenny and Tony Nash; three grandchildren, Anna Claire Dickey, Sam Horton, and Emma Nash (Eliana); former daughter-in-law, Deborah Bruner and her children, Rebecca and Jakob.
She is also survived by her friend, Cheryl Smith, whose visits and care was faithful and full of love.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29th at North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 29th at 12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Reverend Mary Jane Allen officiating.
