

Mrs. Mary E. Douglas Lunn, 88, of Hixson passed away at The Terrace at Mountain Creek on Friday, September 28, 2018. Mary was born in Kingston Springs, TN on September 14, 1930 to the late Richard E. Douglas Sr. and Margaret (Bell) Douglas. She was a member of Hixson United Methodist Church and was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital. She was nominated as teacher of the year in Hamilton County Schools. She retired from Ganns Middle Valley Elementary School after 20 years. After retirement, her passion for teaching lead her to teach classes in adult literacy at her church. She was past president of the Tennessee Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. She was also a member of the International Sorority of Women Educators and Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association. Mary was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sister, Sue Lamply and her brother, R.E. Douglas Jr.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, John R. Lunn Jr.; son, Steven D. Lunn of Dayton, TN; son, Joseph E. Lunn and wife, Juliet of Trenton, GA; daughter, Elizabeth L. Langston of Cookeville, TN; grandson, Samuel E. Langston; sister, Nattie Jo Lamply of Pegram, TN; beloved daughter-in-law, Aiwen Lunn; 9 nephews and 2 nieces and many extended family. The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct 1st from 4-8 pm at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Hixson. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev Reed Shell officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hixson United Methodist Church in Mary’s honor. Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
