

Mary Katherine Ramsey Tate was the daughter of the late James Leonard Ramsey, Sr. and Mary Genora (Nora) Haynes Ramsey. She was born in Chapel Hill, TN, and resided in Lewisburg, TN, until 1957 when she moved with her family to Manchester, TN, and in 1973, to Chattanooga, TN.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Lebert Tate, whom she married in 1948; grandmother Margaret Marshall Ramsey Thomas (John McBride Ramsey, Allen Thomas); stepmother, Cynthia Ring Ramsey Harper (Earl); two brothers: James Leonard Ramsey, Jr. (Hilda), and Shannon Allen Ramsey; one sister Marian Elizabeth Ramsey Curry (James).
She was a member of the Hixson/Clear Creek Church of Christ in Hixson, TN (Chattanooga). In her earlier years, Mrs. Tate had also been a member and teacher at Church Street and Hickory Heights Churches of Christ in Lewisburg, TN; and Southside and Main Street Churches of Christ in Manchester, TN.
Survivors include her one son, George Montgomery Tate (Jeanne), of Wichita, KS; two daughters, Donna Ruth Tate Miller (Dale) of Harriman, TN, and Cara Lisa Tate Longacre (Dan) of Ooltewah, TN; and one sister, Dorothy Ramsey Parker of Lewisburg, TN; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Tate held a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and spent most of her adult years actively involved in painting, teaching, and volunteering her services for community and state arts activities; two of which are, her appointment as a Visual Arts Committee Member for the Tennessee Arts Commission, and was the first Chairman of the Manchester Municipal Arts Commission. She was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Local Color Gallery in Nashville, TN, In-Town Gallery, Gallery 210, Gallery 1401, Hanover Gallery, and Galleries 310N and 310S in Chattanooga; Southern Watercolor Society, Tennessee Watercolor Society, and Friends of the Gallery (UTC Cress Gallery of Art), the Association for Visual Artists, Allied Arts, and Hunter Museum of Art History--all in Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Service at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, October 30, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel with Walter Elliott, and grandson, Seth Miller, officiating. A graveside service will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Walter Elliott, and grandson, Seth Miller, officiating.
Contributions to Clear Creek Church of Christ or Martin-Boyd Christian Home may be made in lieu of flowers.
