Maurice was born and raised on a farm in Hartley, Iowa. After graduating high school, he attended Iowa State in the ROTC program, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. After graduating college, Maurice joined the US Navy becoming a Navy Aviator and then a flight instructor out of Pensacola Naval Air Station. While in Pensacola, he met and married Rose Marie Anthony in 1958. After leaving the Navy in 1960, he started his career as an electrical engineer. Upon retiring, he and his wife spent time traveling and ultimately settling in Signal Mountain, TN in 2010. Mauri and Rose Marie were married for 59 years until her passing in 2017. Mauri enjoyed playing golf, boating, and salt water fishing. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Schmoll; parents, Henry and Elva Schmoll; and sisters, Ann (Dick) France and Lois (Art) Douglass.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Schmoll and Matthew Schmoll; daughter, Karen Schmoll (William “Bill”) Snow; and sister, Melva (Don) Storm.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:30 am at Alexian Village's Chapel in Signal Mountain, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maurice's name to Navy Veterans or the Alzheimer's Association.
