Morris L. Owens passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 after a courageous battle from symptoms associated with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) at a local health care facility. He was a graduate of Central High School and a veteran of the US Air Force. Morris retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 38 years of service in the Transportation Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loamie and Loyce Owens of this city and his wife Sandy, also of Chattanooga.
He is survived by his brother, Wayne (Nancy) Owens, sisters, Lynda Gardner and Phyllis Jean Owens (Melvyn) Green of Soddy Daisy; special friend Betty Grizard, of Chattanooga, goddaughter, Meg Dedmon of Birmingham, Alabama, and a host of Norfolk Southern retiree friends.
Visitation will be Monday from 1-3 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.
Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Hamilton Memorial Gardens Chapel of Devotion mausoleum with the Rev. Gordon Temple officiating.
