Newell was born in McMinn, Tennessee and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. He served proudly for our country, during World War II, in the U. S. Army, serving on D-Day in Normandy and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Newell was the former owner and operator of Dan’s Heating and Air and was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church in Athens, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline “Polly” Frank O’Daniel; his parents, John and Lula Benton O’Daniel; sisters, Hazel Bohannon and Inez Howard and a brother, Johnny O’Daniel.
Newell is survived by his children, Dennis (Ava) O’Daniel; Judy (Dwayne) King; Ronald O’Daniel and John (Katrina) O’Daniel; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brother, Ben (Helen) O'Daniel; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Monday and 10 to 11am on Tuesday at the North Chapel.
Services for Newell will be held at 11 am on Tuesday at the North Chapel with Minister Larry Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Newell’s name to the American Heart Association, 519 East 4th Street, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
