Patricia Edwards Davies

She married Wallace McRoy Davies on November 19, 1955, and they were happily married for 55 years.

She is survived by her son, John McRoy Davies of Signal Mountain; and daughters Wallis Elizabeth Davies, of Signal Mountain, and Patricia Franklin Davies, of Chattanooga.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Blair Davies of Nashville, formerly of Chattanooga; her nieces Julia S. Ewing and Betty Anne Edwards Lennon, both of Raleigh, N.C., her nephews, Arthur F. “Bud” Edwards of Charlottesville, Va., Gary Lee Edwards of Richmond, Va., R. Blair Davies of Boston, Ma., Michael Nixon Davies of Nashville, and also nieces Charlotte Davies Moynahan of Atlanta, and Susan Connally Davies of Nashville and many great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Davies grew up in Charlottesville, Va., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin John Edwards. She graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Va. and graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va. Mrs. Davies was a member of Phi Mu sorority.

After graduation from college at the age of 20, Mrs. Davies worked for ten years as a medical secretary to doctors on staff at the University of Virginia Hospital.

She met her husband, Wally, on a blind date while he was in law school at the University of Virginia. They were married after a two year courtship in the University Chapel.

Mr. and Mrs. Davies moved to Chattanooga after their marriage and to Signal Mountain in 1960 where they built their first home on James Boulevard and a second house on Applewood Circle where they resided for 50 years and raised their three children. Her children recall her telling them many times that she and their father thought Signal Mountain would be a nice place to raise a family because of its sidewalks.

For several years she was employed by the Chattanooga Symphony as its Executive Secretary. She was later active in the Chattanooga Symphony Guild.

Mrs. Davies firmly believed that her primary responsibility in life was to take care of her family. She was an excellent cook and provided many "thrifty" meals to her children's friends over the years.

She was a Cub Scout den mother; a room mother several times at Wilkes T. Thrasher Elementary School; and served for two years as president of the Thrasher Elementary PTA. She was most proud of starting the "Chili Supper" at Thrasher and raising the funds necessary to begin the development of the lower baseball fields.

Mrs. Davies was honored with a life membership in the Thrasher Elementary School PTA at the end of her second term as PTA president.

Mrs. Davies was a past president of the Chattanooga Bar Association Auxiliary.

She enjoyed gardening, genealogy, and bridge and at one time belonged to two bridge clubs as well as a "couples' bridge club made up of attorneys and their wives.

Mrs. Davies was a member of the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church for over 20 years and later joined First-Centenary United Methodist Church where she retained membership until her death.

At the age of 85, Mrs. Davies bought an IPhone and learned to "text" so that she could keep in touch with her children and younger relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, in the Kate Lyle West Chapel of First-Centenary United Methodist Church with Reverend W. Edward Snodgrass and Doctor David Harr officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on Monday at the church.
