Patrick Dean Royal passed away Tuesday June 6, 2017. Patrick was born in Ft. Benning Georgia March 23, 1959 to Lt. Col. Donald Dean Royal and Sonja Rievley Royal. Pat’s father preceded him in death.
Pat had a love of learning that encompassed obscure corners of history as well as a passion for the Civil War and World War II. He had a wry and unique sense of humor that made those around him laugh.
Pat attended the University of Maryland at Munich and transferred to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He majored in History and then pursed a degree in Anthropology where he met his wife, Catherine Holt, at the archeological field school. Their shared love of learning and passion for reading kept them together for 32 years until his death
Pat made a career in the family Rental business– first with his grandfather L. E. Rievley at A&L Rentals and then with his brother Mike Royal at Showtime Event Rentals. He was also a member of the local Stagehands Union 140 for many years. Pat loved regaling his friends and family with stories of his many experiences from life or his current reading passions.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Cathy, mother Sonja, stepfather Robert Allen, brothers and sisters Michael Royal (Deb), Donna Royal-Rybke (Blaine), Kevin Allen (Sue), Denise Allen (Tom), Cherolyn Karkanias (Jim), Sean Royal (Karen), Justin Crutchfield (Bobbi), plus many adoring nieces, nephews, and a special grand-niece.
The family sends a thank you to Dr. Anz and the staff at Tennessee Oncology and Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends Friday June 9, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel with a memorial service to be held at 7 p.m. The family would love for anyone who so desires to share a memory at the service.
