Born on September 8, 1947, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Phil grew up with a strong sense of community and dedication that would define his life. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War era as a member of the U.S. Army, embodying the values of service and commitment that he carried into every aspect of his life.
Phil built a distinguished career as a journeyman sheet metal worker and was a proud member of Local Union No. 5 of the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association for over five decades. His work ethic and craftsmanship earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike throughout his long career.
Faith played an important role in Phil’s life. He worshipped at St. Jude Catholic Church and was deeply involved with the Knights of Columbus Council 8576, where he achieved the rank of fourth degree member. He held numerous leadership roles within the organization and found great joy in volunteering—especially during the annual Lenten fish fry, an event he looked forward to each year.
Phil had a lifelong passion for motorsports and could often be found following NASCAR and Formula One racing with enthusiasm. He also enjoyed playing golf and had a deep appreciation for cars—interests that brought him both relaxation and connection with others.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joy Daniel; his parents Wally and Catherine Daniel; his
brother Christopher Daniel; brother-in-law Jim Holman; and his infant son Jason Daniel.
Phil is survived by his daughters Katie Fretz and Annie Powell; son-in-law Paul Fretz; grandchildren Camy Fretz, Madeline Powell, and Keegan Powell; sisters Ruth Ann Buck, Berny Fischer, and Pat Copeland; Jason Holman as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Phil’s legacy is one of dedication—to his family, his faith, his country, and his craft. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
Visitation will take place on September 9, 2025 from 5-7 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel. Funeral services will take place at St. Jude Catholic Church on September 10, 2025 at 11 am.
