Steve, Dimples and I were neighbors. I lived on Ellyn Lane and attended school at Brainerd with Steve. Steve was such a nice and loving person. He saw no color just people. I enjoyed being around him after school. He, Dimples and I would sit on my porch wondering why people were so mean to each other because we were at that time desegregating our schools in Chattanooga. I didn't see him again after high school because I left Chattanooga. My condolences to his family. May God comfort you at this time of sorrow. Steve had a good heart. I met Steve, Charles, and Suzanne many years ago at the  Short Cut Campground, where I worked security during race weekends at Bristol Motor Speedway. Being an officer race fans can get on your nerves after working long hours, in hot temperatures, wearing hot uniforms, and having people standing everywhere you turn. Then you Meet Steve Harris. At first I thought oh great this guy will end up in the back of my cruiser before the weekend is over with. But I had not even talked to Steve that much yet.  Boy did my opinion quickly change. That weekend Steve and I spent hours talking about deer hunting, fishing, telling stories from work and of course watching and laughing at the drunks in the campground. One year there were a group of campers that came in with a very large tent. It became obvious to Steve and I that these guys had no clue how to set up this tent. They spent hours setting the tent up and Steve and I spent hours laughing at them while they were doing it. That’s when the friendship began. We would talk throughout the year by phone but I always looked forward to the week when Charles, Steve, and Suzanne came to the race.
I’ve known Steve Harris now for many years. He always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell, and was always picking on someone. I can say he will be missed and Bristol Motor Speedway will not be the same with out him.

Steve and I worked for years together in construction. Once we were building a deck way out in the country and when we arrived at the job, only had one hammer. We built the entire deck that day passing the hammer back and forth. There was an "Old Timer" that lived there and watched the whole crazy day, and said in all is 93 years he never saw anything like it. Shortly after that day, I told Steve I was going to get into the Home Inspector business. After a couple of months doing that, and keeping the hammer with me, Steve had no choice but to get in the business with me. He worked for me as Premier Home Inspections for a couple of years until the day came that we both knew, he had to break off on his own. We spent hours going over 100's of different possible names for his new company and nothing seem to work. Then I said, "I've Got It! Steve Harris Home Inspections."  We both knew that was it. In less than 48 hours cards and reports were printed and a star was born! One last thing, a star was really born when Steve was born again. Thank you Sliverdale Baptist Church and Thank you Jesus for such a good friend!
