VISA DUNN STEWART, 96, of Chattanooga died Monday, October 31, 2011. She was the widow of Howard L. Stewart, who died in 1968. She was born and educated in Polk County and earned degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and the University of Chattanooga. Visa was a teacher in the Hamilton County School System for more than thirty years,
principally at Alpine Crest Elementary. She was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she served as church librarian for many years.
Survivors include four sons and their wives: Howard Alan (Gail) Stewart of Chattanooga, TN, Eric Carson Stewart of Mathews, VA, Philip Lawrence (Gloria) Stewart of Signal Mountain, TN and Byron Dunn (Pat) Stewart of Hixson, TN; grandchildren, Andy and Nathan Stewart of Chattanooga; Janet Riddett, Stephen Stewart and Aaron Stewart of Virginia; a step grandson, Marc Arellano of Chattanooga; and five great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. CDT Wednesday, November 2 at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, TN with the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Thompson officiating.
Visitation will be held following the All Saints service at St. Luke United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 6, 2011.
