He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat and children, Gary (Dean) Pickett, Gayle (Brent) Gamble and Scott (Roseann) Pickett, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as a sister, Mary Alspaugh.
Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Paul and Richard Pickett and grandson, Andrew Gamble.
Bill attended the Lutheran School, graduated from Central High School and was of the Lutheran faith. He worked for 37 years at NCR where he developed many lifelong friends.
Bill was fiercely competitive when playing cards, chess or backgammon. He was the leader of the pack in neighborhood basketball games or volleyball matches in his front yard. Bill’s sense of adventure led him to enjoy duck and quail hunting, fly fishing, camping and river rafting. He bought an Army surplus raft and spent years guiding family and friends down the Ocoee, Nantahala and Hiwassee rivers.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 9th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Hwy 153, Hixson, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy, P. O. Box 358, Hixson, TN 37343 or to Hospice of Chattanooga.
