Beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Adela Garcia Riojas of Houston, Texas, gracefully passed away on January 8th at 12:12 PM, at the remarkable age of 89. Born on May 19, 1936, in the vibrant city of Houston to the loving parents, Jose Gil Garcia and Emilia Yanez, Adela was raised in a large and nurturing family, where the bonds of love and camaraderie were deeply cherished. She shared her childhood with her dear siblings: Francis, Jesse (Chuma), Arthur, Mary, Richard, Leon, Alexander, Socorro (who sadly passed away early), Elia, Henry, Socorro (Corrie), and Robert (who experienced infant mortality), each of whom played a unique role in shaping her life.
Adela graduated from Jeff Davis High School, where her vibrant spirit shone brightly. In her early years, she embraced the world of retail at Sakowitz department store in downtown Houston. Her experiences there not only ignited her passion for international fashion but also instilled in her a lifelong appreciation for personal style and elegance. On October 9, 1965, she embarked on a new chapter when she married Emilio Riojas. Their journey led them to California, where they resided in North Hollywood. In this enchanting place, Adela discovered her love for theater and film, diving into the glamour and artistry of the entertainment world.
Upon returning to Houston to cultivate their family and business aspirations, Adela and Emilio chose to settle in the heart of the Houston Heights, a community that became a cherished part of their lives. Adela thrived in her role as a devoted mother and wife, instilling love, joy, and creativity in their home until her passing.
She was most recently preceded in death by her beloved sister, Corrie, and is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Emilio, and their cherished son, Anthony, who carry her spirit forward in their lives.
Adela leaves behind a legacy of love encapsulated in her favorite message to all who were fortunate enough to know her: “Loved you yesterday, love you still, always have, always will.” Her words will resonate in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness and warmth.
Family and friends are warmly invited to honor and celebrate Adela's remarkable life at farewell services at Forest Park Lawndale in the Grand Chapel on Monday, January 19, 2026, for viewing from 5 PM to 9 PM, with a comforting Rosary at 7 PM. Burial services will take place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in the Grand Chapel, commencing at 10 AM, followed by the committal service at 11 AM, as we gather to remember and celebrate a life beautifully lived.
