Albert Eugene Stoffel, lovingly known as Gene, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Conroe, Texas at the age of 84. Born on September 18, 1941, in Houston, Texas, Gene lived a life marked by dedication to his family, career and passions.
Gene pursued an impressive academic journey, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. His education laid the foundation for a distinguished career that spanned various industries and roles. Over the years, Gene contributed his expertise to Stoffel Distribution Airco, Chrysler, First City National Bank, Gulf States, The Houston Astros organization, Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, Stoffel CPA firm and Edward Jones. He was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Gene was also an active member of the former student associations at both UT Arlington and the University of Michigan.
Gene proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps reserves. After completing boot camp and officer training camp Gene dedicated six years to the reserves which is a testament to his discipline and commitment.
Above all, Gene cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Carolyn Sauer Stoffel, his brother Robert Stoffel, sister-in-law Velma Sauer. He also leaves behind dear family members like Nelda Blackshere Reynolds and David Reynolds, Buddy Dilley and Helen Daley.
Gene’s legacy continues through his three children: Sherry Stoffel Woodard and Husband, Tony Woodard, Stephen Stoffel, Samantha Tomasek and Husband Craig Tomasek He was the proud grandfather of eight beloved grandchildren: Loryn Woodard Klespis and husband, Philip Klespis, Sherry Marie Stoffel Banh and Husband Tony Banh, Sarai Stoffel, Austin Woodard, Garett Tomasek, Seth Stoffel, Sean Stoffel, and Madison Tomasek. He was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews that he cherished.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Albert Stoffel Sr. and Marie Stoffel, his sister Ginger Gilliam Stoffel, his brother Richard Stoffel, and his brother-in-law Richard Sauer.
Gene’s life was enriched by many hobbies that brought him joy and above all else time with his family. An avid gardener and fitness enthusiast, Gene completed an incredible 17 marathons.
He enjoyed playing solitaire and dominoes, particularly “42” and could often be found cheering on his favorite football team: The Michigan Wolverines. Music was another source of happiness for Gene; he loved listening to ZZ Top and dancing whenever he had the chance. Gene’s determination and caring nature left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His love for life was evident in his fight over his last six weeks. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them to the pool and to getting ice cream.
May Gene’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspires others to live with the same passion for family and life that he showed each day.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2026 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
