Alicia Parra Cook

Alicia “Alice” Parra Cook of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on December 23, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on August 21, 1936, in New Gulf, Texas, she was the youngest of nine children.

Alicia graduated from the Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing in the Class of 1959 and embarked on her nursing career. Her dedication, ambition, and leadership culminated in her role as Vice President of Administration at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

Beyond her professional success, she is known for her boundless generosity and hospitality. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she often provided shelter and support to those in need. She found joy in preparing home-cooked meals, using food as a heartfelt expression of love. Her table was always open, bringing family and friends together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere filled with love and laughter.

Alicia lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, traveling, enjoying trips to the casino, and cherishing time with their family and friends. She was actively involved in the Legion of Mary at St. Leo the Great Catholic Parish, where her faith and commitment to service touched many lives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Maria Parra, son, Jerry A. Cook, 6 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Alicia is survived by her son, Mark R. Bidwell; grandchildren, Marissa Bidwell (Jake Ricondo), Elaina Perry (Kyle Perry), Lorenzo Bidwell (Brianna Camacho), and Olivia Bidwell (Kyle Jackson); and four beautiful great-grandchildren: Mia West, Wade Perry, Jack Perry, and Kya Jackson.

Alice passed peacefully, surrounded by love and fond memories, leaving a legacy of strength, kindness, and an unyielding zest for life. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who know her.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation held Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, with a rosary at 6:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held 10 AM on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, with graveside committal following.
