

Alicia LaVerne Curry was born December 25, 1951 in El Paso, Texas to Alice Faye Curry and the late Sgt. Lee Arthur Curry, Jr. She grew up in Houston, Texas and was raised by her mother and the late Thurston Dean Harrison, "Dad". As a child Alicia enjoyed spending her summers in Korhville,Texas with her cousins. She attended Blackshear Elementary, Miller Junior High, and Jack Yates High School. Alicia received her license in vocational nursing from Houston Community College after which Alicia began her nursing career interning at Riverside Hospital. She was later employed as a nurse the Ben Taub General Hospital where she worked in the emergency room. Alicia had a passion for the elderly and soon transitioned her career by caring for the elderly at Four Seasons Nursing Home in Houston Texas' Hiram Clarke area. Alicia's passion and determination lead to her working independently as a home healthcare nurse for over 25 years where she built lifetime friends and relationships due to her loving and caring nature. Alicia was a strong Christian woman, a prayerful woman. Her entire life was centered on her relationship with Jesus Christ. She had a giving heart. She was a cheerful giver. She loved helping others. Alicia loved giving to those in need. Alicia Tyler-Baker was a woman of strong constitution and was an extremely compassionate personand was loved by all those she touched. Due to complications of cancer, Alicia peacefully departed from this earth on December 09, 2012 surrounded by the love of her family members at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. Alicia leaves behind four wonderful children, Lytuana, Derryl, Tasharra, and Shawn, who were born to the union of Ira Luicus Tyler. Alicia was a loving and caring mother who treasured her family. She leaves to cherish precious memories (grandchildren) Henry Pickens III, Daijah Curry; (nephews) Rodney Ali Gurley, Tony Washington, Ramone Curry, Tedrick Scott, D'Andre Beck, Roderick Beck, Muhsin Harrison; (sister) Yasmeen Muhammad; (brothers) Bruce Curry, Wayne Curry, Akbar Harrison, and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Alicia had an especially close relationship to her son-in-law, Antwon La'Ray Burks, who shared in caring for her throughout her illness.
