Audrey V. Morris

Audrey V. Buchanan Morris arrived in her heavenly home Wednesday, February 23, 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents: Walter Turner Buchanan and Missouria Harrelson Buchanan; husband: Harley Alton Morris, and first born son Joel Don Morris.

"Audra" was born November 24, 1912 just outside Weldon, Texas near Lovelady, where she milked cows, gathered eggs and helped her mother with the chores. She also picked cotton, which was hard work, but they didn't know any better. Audra just did what she had to do. In 1936, after she and Harley were married for one year, they moved to Houston and she changed her name to Audrey.

Audrey became a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Ladies' Auxiliary not long after her husband became a conductor/brakeman, switchman with the Southern Pacific Railroad. She was widowed in 1959 as a result of an on-the-job accident and was left to raise five children alone. Audrey had been baptized as a teenager in a river gathering near her home and was able to carry on because of her faith in Jesus Christ. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 50 years and always enjoyed her Sunday School classes.

Mother loved all facets of homemaking, cooking, cleaning, always keeping her house in order and welcomed company any time. She took up oil painting sometime in the 80's and left several lovely paintings for her family to cherish in her memory.

Audrey is survived by her only daughter: Brenda Sue Heaton and husband Dan; sons: Ray Alan Morris and wife Theresa, Benny Dale Morris and wife Brenda, Malvin Earle Morris and wife Mary, Alvin Gerald Morris and wife Pat; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. We will miss you, we loved you dearly Mama, until we meet again.

Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at Earthman Resthaven. Audrey's Celebration of Life will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 26th in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
