After graduating from Russellville High School, Ava joined her sister Martha in Philadelphia, PA. where Martha attended university while Ava started her career as an operator at the telephone company. Ava met the love of her live, Walter, on a New Year’s Eve blind date. Ava and Walter journeyed to Los Angeles, CA where they were married and had two children. She used her education to good effect, raising two children in whom she took great pride. Her warm and caring personality had her consistently making the extra effort to support her children, friends and neighbors. In 1969, the family relocated to Houston, Texas. Ava became a secretary at the Texas Department of Agriculture and retired as a state inspector. After retirement, Ava stayed physically and mentally active by exercising daily at the Dad’s Club and enjoying the company of friends. Since 1972, Ava was a long-time parishioner of St. Cecilia Catholic Community. After becoming a catholic herself, she became a sponsor to mentor new Catholics to the faith. She was often seen at the Sunday after-mass usher lunch in support of Walter’s ushering activities. The tight knit group stayed in contact which became an invaluable support in Ava’s later years.
