M. Beatrice “Bea” Guidry went home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on December 29, 1940, in Idabel, Oklahoma, to Venson Ozy McCain and Willie Beatrice Cooper-McCain. In her early years, Bea and her older brother, Venson, were lovingly raised by their mother and later by her husband, Owen E. Briles, who became an important part of their lives.
As a child, Bea’s family moved frequently before settling in Houston, Texas. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Jerry Guidry, Sr., on December 3, 1957. They first made their home in the Heights before planting roots in the Spring Branch community, where together they lovingly raised their family.
A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker for more than twenty years, Bea later began a second calling as a school nurse with Spring Branch ISD. She cherished her work and, after 25 years of dedicated and rewarding service, retired in 2004 to focus on her greatest joy—spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Bea’s faith shaped every part of her life. A longtime member of North Main Baptist Church, she loved singing in the choir and was often called upon to share her voice in solos. She also took great pride in her home and garden, pouring her heart into making them welcoming and beautiful. Most of all, Bea treasured her family, and her joy only grew with the arrival of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She delighted in life’s simple pleasures—watching classic horror films, cheering on the Houston Astros, and cherishing time spent with loved ones. Bea also found great joy in the fellowship and outings shared with her Spring Branch Area Retired School Employees (SBARSE) group, as well as with the Prime Timers of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
Bea is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Jerry Guidry, Sr.; her parents, Owen E. Briles and Willie McCain Briles; her brother, Venson McCain; and her cherished grandson, Eric Guidry.
She is survived by her children: Jerry Guidry Jr. and wife Marla, Kenneth Guidry and wife Michelle, Sherry Guidry, and Craig Guidry; her grandchildren: Christopher Guidry, Kyle Guidry and wife Shelby, Collin Guidry, Cameron Guidry, and Allie Guidry; and her five great-grandchildren. She also leaves with love in her heart her former daughters-in-law, Shauna Wyatt and Cheryl Harget Guidry, as well as her sister-in-law, Lois Solis, and nieces JoEllen Thompson, Karen Johnson Garrett, and Cyndee Wheat, who remained dear to her throughout her life.
A private memorial service will be held for immediate family at Waltrip Funeral Home.
Extended family and friends are warmly invited to attend the inurnment at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77038, on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 10:45 a.m
