

Bernadette “Bobbye” Janak Nunley, age 81, of Houston returned home to the arms of the Good Shepherd on Saturday, March 15, 2014. She was born February 1, 1933 in Hallettsville, TX to August John and Agnes Pustka Janak.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America-Court #1750, Professional Secretaries International and the St. Cecilia choir.
She graduated from St. Ludmila Academy in Shiner TX, and went on to receive an executive secretarial degree from the Baldwin Business College in Yoakum, TX. Upon moving to Houston, she started her professional career path with a freight forwarding company. She then was employed by Walding Oil Company as secretary to the president. Her most significant employment tenure was with Robishaw Engineering Company, where she was an administrative assistant for 33 years.
She enjoyed the outdoors, especially riding her favorite palomino horse, Pal, in the Salt Grass Trail Ride. She was always ready to go, especially on cruises of which she toured most of the world. She was a fun loving person, who always had a smile on her face. Her social activity included involvement in the Professional Secretaries Association, and she was head of several committees. She was very active in community work including the Catholic Daughters, St. Catherine’s prayer ministry and her homeowners association.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, G. Ray Nunley, godson E. J. Janik and wife Leah and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Annie & Joe Najvar, Paul & Mary Janak, Monsignor Hubert Janak, Julia & Milo Gillar, Melvin & Sybil Janak, Margaret & Bernard Roeder, Agnes & Edwin Gerlich, Joe D. & Mildred Janak, and Irene & Harry Hruzek.
Visitation will be Monday, March 17, at Heights Funeral Home, Houston TX from 5-8pm with a rosary at 7pm. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10am Tuesday, March 18, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood Dr, Houston TX 77043 with Rev. Niall J. Nolan officiating. Rite of committal will follow at 2pm in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston TX.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests donations be made to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church or the Catholic Daughters of America-Court #1750.
