

BERNICE STATHAM ROSS, a long time Houston resident, a Loving and Devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, went home to be with our LORD on November 1, 2010.Bernice was born May 26, 1919 in Roans Prairie, Texas and was the only child of William Statham and Eula Alvina Horton. Mother graduated from Shiro High School in 1936 and moved to Houston where she held various positions with Milby High School, Levy's Department Store, Gulf Oil Company and National Life Insurance. Thanks to answering a wrong number telephone call mother met and later married Raybon Ross on August 26, 1941. They were married 68 years before his death on March 16, 2010.Bernice is survived by her three sons and their families, Raybon and wife, Carol; Waymond and wife Jacqueline; and Merrell and wife, Kay; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kevin, Katy, William, and Morgan; and five great grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, Mikayla, Harper, and Brayden. Mother was a long time member of Victory Baptist Church and Oak Forest Baptist Churches of Houston. Mother's memory will be cherished by her family and friends who wish to acknowledge the care and support she received from the staff of Tomball Retirement Center and her special care givers, Signora Broussard and Mae Gipson.Friends may visit with Bernice's family beginning at 10 A.M Thursday, November 4, at Oak Forest Baptist Church, 1700 W. 43rd Street, Houston where funeral services will begin at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Forest Baptist Church.
