Betty "Tootie" McCreight Cox, age 86, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014. Tootie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who was loved and adored by her family and all who knew her.
Tootie was a longtime Houston resident, graduating from Lamar High School in 1945. She attended Southwestern University and the University of Houston, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was a member of the Junior League of Houston and the Houston Art Guild. She was a fabulous artist and seamstress who excelled in the intricate details of her work.
Tootie was married to Charles D. Cox for 43 years until his death in 1996. She is survived by her daughters Ellen Wolpert and Nancy Doyle, along with their husbands Dean Wolpert and Jim Doyle. The loves of her life were her four granddaughters Ann, Katherine and Rebecca Wolpert, and Caroline "Carly" Johnson.
Although her health had declined the past few years, Tootie never lost her sense of humor or her quick Southern wit. She will be deeply missed by all those who love her, but we are thankful she is now in heaven with Charlie and her beloved dog, Otto.
Our family wishes to sincerely thank the nursing staff on the first floor of the Health Center at Brookdale Plaza Galleria for their incredible loving care of Tootie for many years.
Those wishing to make a charitable contribution in Tootie's honor may do so to the Citizens for Animal Protection at cap4pets.org.
