Betty was the only child of Ryan R. Wessendorf and Julia Nimsk Wessendorf. She was a lifelong member of Trinty Lutheran Church downtown and attended grade school at Trinity Lutheran School. Betty graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston in 1960. She attended nursing school at Sacred Heart Dominican College and graduated in 1964. Most of her career as a nurse was spent at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she rose to the ranks of Floor Supervisor.
While at St. Joseph’s, Betty worked with Sadye Bornstein Curtin, who introduced Betty to her son, James (Jim). The two married in 1966 and remained devoted to each other for 52 years, until Jim passed away in 2018.
Services for Betty will be at the Forest Park Funeral Home at 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston at noon Friday, October 24. Visitation will be from 11:00 am till 12:00 that same day. Graveside services will be at 1:00 following the services.
