Betty was born on November 16, 1917, to Frank and Frances Vacek Drastata, and grew up in Taiton, Texas (near El Campo). As a young lady she moved to Houston where she worked for Grand Prize Brewing Company and Rath Packing Company. In May, 1953, she married Cullen “Mac” McPherson. She and Mac enjoyed 53 happy years of marriage in the Woodland Heights in Houston where they often provided extended lodging to numerous family members who had come to Houston to pursue their education and/or careers. Prior to their retirement, Betty worked side-by-side with her husband Mac for many years in their own business, McPherson Printing Company.
Betty was devoted to her family, her faith, and her country. As the oldest of seven children, she was always willing to provide generously for her family, as well as for others. She was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Houston. She was involved in the activities associated with the VFW and the American Legion, of which her husband was a member. She loved planting flowers and vegetables in her small garden and was proud to be able to tend to them and see them prosper, even when she was quite elderly and lived alone.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cullen “Mac” McPherson, her brother, Frank W. Drastata, and her sister, Martha Kotlar. She is survived by her sister, Georgie Duyka of Wharton; her brothers, Jim Drastata and wife Annie of El Campo; Joe Drastata and wife Margie of Palacios; Bill Drastata and wife Pam of Houston; sister-in-law, Anita Drastata of Taiton; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Bernice Williams, her loyal care-giver and friend, who so competently and faithfully provided loving care and assistance to her during the latter years of her life.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas, 77008, on Tuesday, November 22, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 23, at St. John Catholic Church, FM 961, Taiton, Texas.
