Betty J. Schumpert Payne

Mrs. Payne was a retired secretary with Spring Branch Independent School District and moved two years ago to Peoria, Arizona, to live with family. She was born in Shannon, Mississippi, to Clyde Robert and D'Arca Johnston Schumpert. On August 31, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart Billy Joe Payne, who preceded her in death.

Surviving relatives include: daughter Kathy Manning, her husband Joe Manning, grandson Tyler Manning, and granddaughter Sarah Manning and two great granddaughters Nadia and Sedona; daughter Sharon Martin, her husband David Martin and granddaughter Emily Martin; son Robby Payne, his wife Julie Birkelo Payne, granddaughter Amanda Payne and grandson Ryan Payne; niece Tammy Cole Rogers, her husband Randy Rogers, grand niece Trista Rogers, and grand nephew Cody Rogers; her sisters Evelyn Young, Wilodyne Barnett, Anita Gunter and Norma Godwin; brother Tilmon Schumpert; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her son, Michael Alan Payne.

Family and friends gathered for a visitation from five until seven o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 13th of January at Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston, where funeral services were conducted in the chapel by Reverend Bruce Gilbert at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 14th of January 2012.
