

Calvin Kolar, 84, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Kindred Hospital. He was born at home in West, Texas. He has been a Houston resident since the age of 3, when his parents homesteaded off of South Main Street and Willowbend. He attended Almeda School, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic school, Pershing Jr. High School, Bellaire High School and University of Houston.
Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, Norma Lee Lavender Kolar and Joseph Rudolph Kolar; sisters Evelyn Scorza, Diann Williams and grandson, Jeremy Mikes.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Seraphine, his brother John (Evelyn), his daughters, Renee Rubert, Debbie Mikes (Eddie); sons, Chris (Alicia) and Philip (Elindabeth); his seven grandchildren: Aidenn and Chloe Kolar; Annelise Aven (Griffin); Joseph Rubert; Aurora, Shasa and Jasmine Kolar; and brother-in-law Mario Scorza.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with boot camp at Fort Hood then stationed in Germany. After discharge he followed in his father-in-law's footsteps working and retiring after 31 years with Schlumberger Oil and Well Surveying Company. After retirement, he worked with his brother, John, and friend Mike Schade remodeling, renovating houses and woodworking.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for 55 years and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4577. He enjoyed membership in the New Generation Seniors Club at Mt. Carmel and the Schlumberger Retirees Club. Calvin was the happiest at the Lenart-Kolar Family Reunions, spending time at the lake house in Conroe and trips to Padre Island with Schlumberger Retirees Club.
He enjoyed playing dominos, reading the Sunday comics, playing card games on the computer, eating Dove chocolates and watching America's Funniest Videos, The Andy Griffith Show and Bonanza.
We loved him dearly and will remember him fondly for his sly sense of humor and gentle manner.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Robert Hust, Dr. Kim Bloom and Dr. Kenneth Lloyd from Methodist Hospital, Dr. Huy Vinh and Dr. Campbell from Kindred Hospital, Laura Hernandez and Eric Belarga from Amity Home Health.
Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021. The funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 6723 Whitefriars Dr. at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. Immediately following the burial all are invited to greet the family at 3:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 6320 Madden Lane, Houston, TX 77048.
