Candellaro "Candy" Escamilla, 80, of Hondo, Texas, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, December 4, 2025. He was born on August 23, 1945, in Hondo to Jesus and Francisca Escamilla and was welcomed into eternal rest by his parents, his brothers Roman and Oscar Escamilla, and his sister Sara Cansino.
Candy spent his early childhood in Nolanville, Texas, where he began working at a young age to help support his family, putting aside his schooling to do so. His tremendous work ethic became a defining part of who he was and remained with him throughout his life.
In 1963, Candy met the love of his life, Rachel Morin, and on August 27,1966, they were united in marriage. At age 23, he was drafted into the United States Army, proudly serving two years, including active duty during the Vietnam War. In 1969, Candy and Rachel welcomed their son, Timothy Gregg, and six years Later their daughter, Candace Lynn. Their family grew over the years and became his greatest joy.
Candy had a lifelong passion for vehicles. He could often be found outside working on them, ensuring they were always in pristine condition. Just as important to him was his devotion to the Lord. Every morning began at the kitchen table with his Bible open, filling his heart and spirit with God's word.
Candy is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Rachel Morin Escamilla; his children, Timothy Escamilla and wife Amanda, and Candace Miniel and partner Joshua Cantu; and his cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Niniel (30), Gabriella Ibarra (15), Makenzie Escamilla (13), and Lukas Escamilla (10). He is also survived by his sisters Elena Yanez of Fort Worth, Feliz Garza of Pasadena, and Connie Martinez of Pasadena, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Candy's presence, remarkable strength (and boy, was he strong), and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on forever in the hearts of his family.
