For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2 Timothy 4: 6-7 The mystery of a delicate rose in bloom has long and often held mankind in awe and amazement. From a tiny bud born on the serene stems of life to the full bloom of its delicate petals. So much like that divine bud was the life of Cavin Lakael Thomas. That tiny bud of life was born to the late Carnell Thomas and Shirley Hamilton on March 9, 1974. Cavin confessed his love for Christ at a very early age and continued to serve the Lord with his family at Faith Family Church of Houston, Texas. He received his formal education in the Miami–Dade County School District and graduated from Miami Killian Senior High School in Miami, Florida. While in school he participated in several extracurricular activities such as the band, ROTC, and the Police Explorers for Broward County Sherriff’s department. Shortly after graduating he embarked on his lifelong dream to be a Marine and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Cavin had the value of hard work instilled in him as a young teen by his uncles as they taught him persistence and attention to detail was the key. He always remembered those values while in the Marine Corp and as he started in the mortgage business and fought to rise as a Mortgage Broker. To pursue a better life for himself, Cavin decided to leave his family and friends and move to Houston, TX in 2007. It is here where he met and married the love of his life Tera Qualls, on May 24, 2008. Together they were parents to three children. Whatever form of business he could start, that’s what he did to support his wife and children. He was always business oriented and ready for the chance to jump on an opportunity. Shortly after marrying, Cavin and Tera started Cavman Lawn Service from the trunk of his car using a residential lawn mower and weed eater. His persistence, diligence and loyalty to his customers is what attributed to the growth of his business day by day to where he could purchase 2 trucks and a trailer. While in Houston, Cavin made numerous friends and impacted their lives tremendously. He was always known for his encouraging nature, ability to befriend that wayward stranger on the street and buying gadgets for every occasion. He loved to golf, bowl, roller skate, watch UFC wrestling with his friends and most importantly spend time entertaining and spoiling his children. Due to a previous back injury, Cavin decided to leave his lawn service business and pursue being an over the road truck driver. After spending an enormous amount of time away from his family, he decided it was time to be closer to home and his family. So, he decided to leave the highways and drive locally and regionally for FedEx. Cavin continued driving trucks until his health failed. On Thursday, August 24, 2017, Cavin answered his heavenly call and left his earthly home to be with his father in heaven. Cavin was proceeded in death by his father, Carnell Thomas Sr; grandparents - Flora Mae Parrish, Odes S. Hamilton and Pastor Melva Gean Hamilton who especially helped to rear and spoil him along with several aunts and uncles all of Miami, FL. He leaves to cherish his legacy and memories: his loving and supportive wife, Tera Thomas of Houston TX; mother, Shirley Brown, Miami, Florida ; 3 children - Cavin Jr. of Miami FL, Imani and Chaya both of Houston, TX; sister, Pridgy Spencer (Douglas), Lakeland, FL; brother, Carnell Thomas Jr., Miami, Florida; grandfather, Christopher Parrish, Miami, FL; aunts and uncles - Tressie Mangham (Otis), Cynthia Parrish Williams (Frank), Cathy Parrish, Cherrie Parrish, Willie Lyons, Odes Neal, Johnny Hamilton (Pamela), Archie Hamilton (Barbara), James Willie Anderson, Chris Parrish (Sheryl), Cecil Parrish (Betty); cousins – Jimmy, Danyan, “lil” Otis, Tomiko, Melshonda, Dante, Archie “Man”, Marquay, Tashamba, David, Jonathan, Chris Jr., Melanie, Natasha, Charnell, Cherika, Chelsea, Caleb, Claudia, Cornelius, Kenendria, Shanice, Tramaine, Rokisha, Roquel, Robtriese, Robert, De’Angelo, Anthony, Le’Chicas, Henry, and Laquasha; other numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
