Born on August 18, 1950, in Houston, Texas, Mike was the son of Joseph Parks Craig Jr. and Julia Ann Craig. He grew up with a strong sense of family and faith that would guide him throughout his life. After completing his education at San Jacinto Junior College with a degree in Computer Programming, Mike embarked on a long and dedicated career with Grinnell Fire Protection. Starting in the warehouse in 1972, he worked his way up through the ranks—first becoming a sprinkler fitter and eventually earning a position in management. His work ethic and commitment were evident to all who knew him.
Mike’s greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Laverne Craig; his son Steven "Steve" Craig and wife Kate, along with their children Gabriel, Annalise, and Nathan; Clifton "Matt" Craig and wife Jennifer and their children Shelby and Corbin; and his step-son Matthew Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Joseph Parks Craig III; and his beloved son Michael Scott Craig.
A man of deep faith and unwavering love for God, Mike lived each day with kindness and purpose. He was always ready to lend a hand or offer support—whether you needed help or simply someone to talk to. His presence brought comfort to those around him.
In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mike found great satisfaction in working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking and spent recent years building the log cabin he had long dreamed of—a testament to both his craftsmanship and determination.
Mike will be remembered for the strength of his character, the depth of his love for family, and the quiet generosity that defined his life. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
